HCVFEMSA Honor Guard

The Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association Honor Guard, was formed in the summer of 2001, to provide a trained ceremonial unit at funerals, memorial services and other events.

Our Honor Guard membership is made up from members of the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS companies. Our requirements hold members to very high standard, as we serve as Ceremonial Ambassadors to represent the Harford County Volunteer Fire & EMS Association, Inc. and it’s member companies.

Members are trained for Color Guard, Casket Watch, Funeral Detail and Flag Folding. Training is held one to two times per month and more often as events require. The training is done to military standards and US Army Field Manual 22-5 is followed for proper protocols.

A Color Guard is used at many events other then funerals to present, or to post and retire the Colors. Members are also available to work with personnel from the Fire & EMS Service, with training on how to perform the Casket Watch and related funeral information when requested.

The Honor Guard made their first public appearance in Ocean City, Maryland, at the MSFA Convention parade in June, 2002. The first public appearance in Harford County, took place at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen, to present the Colors for the National Anthem, in August 2002.

The Honor Guard serves as the official Honor Guard, for the annual Memorial Service, of the Harford – Cecil Volunteer Firemen’s Association.

The Honor Guard has also participates in the events at the annual MSFA Convention. They provide personnel for the Joint Memorial Service and Opening Ceremonies at the MSFA Convention.
